50-Disputations on the False Religion of Islam, Section 1

Dr. Mike Petillo

1.     If Islam makes up twenty-percent of the population as the second largest religion in the world, why have they rejected the clear testimony of the infallible Scriptures in the exclusivity of the eternal Son of Man (see Acts 4:12)?

2.     Islam teaches that mankind is good by nature, but the inerrant Bible teaches that mankind is completely no good (Rom. 3ff).

3.     Islam teaches that God is a singular unity, but denies and rejects the Triune Majesty in the infallible Word (Mt 28:19).

4.     Islam teaches sin is merely rejecting right guidance, but the God-breathed Word of God teaches that mankind has violated every point of the moral law of God (Js 2:10) as completely corrupt sinners (Ps 53ff).

5.     Islam teaches repentance with no atonement, but the infallible Word teaches that repentance is only through Christ crucified (Mk 1:15; Jn 19:30).

6.     Repentance in itself cannot save anyone, but it must be through the exclusivity of the Incarnate Savior and Redeemer.

7.     It is possible to turn away from sin to idols made with human hands, but the inerrant Word teaches that the one true God is the Three in One and the One in Three.  That is, we must turn to Him alone.

8.     Not just any atonement will spiritually avail, but the exclusivity of the atonement of Jesus Christ alone.

9.     Do not reject atonement through Christ alone, because it is the only way to rid you of complete unrighteousness.

10. If no atonement is necessary, why did Jesus say that the Good Shepherd lays down His life for His friends in order to be right with God?   That is, we desperately need a divine substitute in our behalf because it is the only way to be spiritually clean.

11. If the Triune Lord is rejected, how is Allah a better alternative when he is not eternally self-existent (without being a god made by human religion) like the Father, Son and Holy Spirit alone?

12. If the exclusivity of Christ alone as Savior is rejected, how is Muhammad a better alternative when Jesus is the sinless God-man?

13. If we are totally depraved by nature, how is the lack of the necessity of atonement better in light of real radical corruption?

14. If sin is merely the thought of rejecting right guidance, why does it cause spiritual, supernatural and complete death that requires the necessity of God’s divine intervention?

15. If sin is rejecting right guidance, why does God’s infallible Word clearly say that the sinner is in cosmic, complete and spiritual rebellion against a holy God?

16. If sin is merely rejecting right guidance, why are sinners completely alienated from Him?

17. The infallible Scriptures clearly teach that a supernatural, exclusive, efficacious, and necessary atonement of Jesus alone is required for a holy relationship with God.

18. Islam teaches spiritual salvation is through good deeds outweighing bad deeds through human effort, but the inspired Word clearly says that our deeds by nature are thoroughly tainted with complete sin and the so-called good deeds we do are the same civil goodness for the residents of the bottomless pit in eternal hell.  That is, sinners need the untainted unified imputed righteousness of Christ alone in how someone is right with God by faith alone.

19. Spiritual salvation is not through human effort, but by God’s choice alone according to His good pleasure alone in the outworking of His divine providence alone at His appointed time alone not of works.

20. How can good deeds outweigh bad deeds when the only thing that proceeds out of mankind outside of Christ is solely wickedness?

21. If mankind has the spiritual ability to do good deeds outside of Christ, haven’t you mislaid your former certainties in light of the wicked incomprehensiblity of mankind’s abominable heart in light of divine revelation in God’s holy Word?

22. The standard for holiness is not through human effort.  Rather the standard of holiness is God’s matchless and superlative and perfect holiness.  That is, the only matchless purity is the unified robes of divine righteousness of Christ alone that is supernaturally imputed to the regenerate sinner by faith alone.

23. God never grades on a curve.  That is, a sinner must have the perfect merit of Christ alone in their behalf or he is eternally lost.

24. God never compromises His perfect holiness.  That is, how will you stand before God in your sin-tainted garments that are merely filthy rages before a holy God?

25. God’s standard is perfect holiness.  How then shall the civil goodness soiled in sin avail before the sole immaculate holiness of God?

26. No one can save themselves.  That is, spiritual salvation cannot be earned by sinners.  We have nothing to offer a holy God but sin, because a leper cannot change his spots by nature.  How will your sin save you at the Last Day?

27. Don’t your bad deeds demonstrate to you your complete and desperate need for Jesus Christ as the only Lord and Redeemer?

28. If you have ever committed bad deeds, doesn’t it utterly show you your cosmic and spiritual need for God’s unified and divine grace alone not of works of human effort?

29. If you have sinned, why not turn to the One who has all the sin of His people alone applied to Him alone at the Cross at Calvary for how you are right with God in divinely taking away your sin?

30. If it is blasphemy to call Jesus the eternal Son of God, why does the perfect Word of Truth call Him thus?

31. Islam believes in the miracles of Jesus Christ with no avail to spiritual salvation.  That is, the miracles of Jesus by themselves cannot save except by the divine intervention of God’s Spirit and Word in radically changing the heart and mind.  The miracles of Jesus were never meant to save, but bore witness of His matchless deity.

32. If Jesus Christ is the One and Only eternal Son of God, why not embrace Him as the only way to be right with a holy God?

33. Why do you deny God the Son in taking upon Himself human form in the virginal conception of the Virgin Mary by the overshadowing of the Spirit of God, when the infallible Word says that if you deny that Jesus is the eternal Christ you are antichrist?  That is, how can an antichrist be a spiritual believer of Abraham?

34. If you deny that Jesus is God the Son, the infallible Word says you deny the Father and the Son.  That is, if you deny Jesus you deny God the Father.  I am not saying they are the same Persons.   Rather the Father and the Son is co-equal but eternally distinct in the Godhead.

35. If Jesus did not die on the Cross according to Islamic tradition, where will you find a once-and-for-all sacrifice for the sins of God’s people alone but through the eternal Son of God?

36. If Jesus merely ascended into heaven, how do you explain the historical death of Jesus in the New Testament Scriptures?

37. Why do ancient writers in the middle of the first century refer to the alleged but real darkness at the real crucifixion of Jesus Christ that is recorded in the historical New Testament?

38. If the actual death of the eternal Son of God did not happen according to Islamic tradition, why does the Old Testament Scriptures predict in prophetic but historical detail the real death of Jesus Christ?

39. If Judas Iscariot died on the Cross in place of Jesus Christ according to Islamic tradition, why does the Old Testament predict his death and replacement in the office of the apostleship?  The Bible never refers to the replacement of Jesus Christ because He is solely impeccable.  Why do the New Testament Scriptures refer to Judas Iscariot as someone who committed real suicide (he took his own life) through the historical Book of Acts from the account of the Apostle Peter?

40. If it is disrespectful to embrace the Cross of Christ in light of the honor of Jesus according to Islam, why do the New Testament Scriptures speak of the supremacy and centrality of the Cross in how someone is right with God with no human additions or subtractions?

41. How do you explain the detailed prophecy of Isaiah chapter 53 that speaks of the agonizing and atoning crucifixion of the eternal Son of God in taking the place of God’s elect people alone?

42. If Jesus died a physical death according to all of the relevant infallible Scriptures, why deny it in light of mere man-made tradition?

43. The real death of Jesus was a substitutionary atonement in behalf of God’s people who respond through the choice of God alone.

44. The actual death of Jesus was an intended mission by the design of God the Father to save God’s elect people alone through the application of the Spirit in applying particular redemption to God’s chosen people.  That is, He saves all of the elect alone.

45.                        Islam denies the bodily resurrection of Jesus in light of their denial of the Cross of Jesus (without the Cross the resurrection cannot happen), but how can one honestly dismiss the infallible Word in light of the physical but immortal resurrection of the eternal God-man in verifying the person and work of Jesus Christ in how someone is right with God?

46. The infallible Word says that the bodily risen Christ appeared to hundreds of witnesses that demonstrate that He alone is the only way to a holy God in justification by faith alone.

47. We cannot get right with God through keeping the moral law.  Rather we must possess by faith alone the heavenly untainted righteousness of Christ alone accounted to us.  The divine merit of Christ alone is foreign to the mere civil goodness of this crooked and wicked world.

48. Islam denies the Cross of Jesus through ant-Scriptural tradition, but how can it be so easily set aside that the eternal Incarnate Word voluntarily gave His life for His chosen sheep alone in the historical record of the infallible written Word?

49. Islam wrongly asserts that Jesus’ death at the Cross is dishonoring to God for how someone is right with a holy God, but how is that the legitimate case when the Cross of Jesus is the essence of glory in light of the redemptive reality that Jesus gave His life for the exalted and only imputed and divine righteousness for how a sinner is right with God?  Jesus was lifted up like the serpent in the OT Scriptures, but how sinners miss the glory of Jesus at His highest act of obedience at the Cross in His submissive work at His Cross in the design of His Father.  How also sinners miss that Jesus was highly exalted in His death-providing righteousness, His bodily resurrection and His glorious bodily ascension for the glory of the Father.

50. The Quran is demonstrated to be a corrupted unholy book, but the OT and NT Scriptures is the solely divinely authentic, inspired, inerrant and infallible written Word of God alone for how a sinner is right with a perfect God and the demonstration of godly living in the presence of the one true Triune God of the written Scriptures.

A Concise 40-Point-by-Point Study on God as our Greatest Reward and the Real Place of Heaven

Mike Petillo

By grace I am an heir of heaven:
Why doubt this, O my trembling heart?
If what the Scriptures promise clearly
Is true and firm in ev'ry part,
This also must be truth divine:
By grace a crown of life is mine.
By grace alone shall I inherit
That blissful home beyond the skies.
Works count for naught, the Lord incarnate
Hath won for me the heav'nly prize.
Salvation by his death he wrought,
His grace alone my pardon bought.
By grace! These precious words remember
When sorely by thy sins oppressed,
When Satan comes to vex thy spirit,
When troubled conscience sighs for rest;
What reason cannot comprehend,
God doth to thee by grace extend.
By grace! Be this in death my comfort;
Despite my fears, 'tis well with me.
I know my sin in all its greatness,
But also him who sets me free.
My heart to naught but joy gives place
Since I am saved by grace, by grace.  (TH, 584).

A Basic 46-Point-by-Point Examination of the Last Judgment

Dr. MA Petillo

That day of wrath, that dreadful day
When heav'n and earth shall pass away!
What pow'r shall be the sinner's stay?
How shall he meet that dreadful day?
When, shriveling like a parched scroll,
The flaming heav'ns together roll;
When louder yet, and yet more dread,
Swells the high trump that wakes the dead;
O on that day, that wrathful day
When man to judgment wakes from clay,
Be thou the trembling sinner's stay,
Though heav'n and earth shall pass away.  (TH, 242).

1.     The Last Judgment is the Day of Wrath for the non-elect.

2.     The Last Judgment is the Day of Judgment for those who do not truly believe by the Spirit and the Word.

3.     The Last Judgment is not imperfect justice but it is perfect justice for those who do not have their sin placed on Jesus at His Cross.

4.     The Last Judgment is the Judgment Seat of our Lord Jesus Christ.

5.     The Last Day is a Day of Joy for God’s elect people in Christ.

6.     The Last Day is the after the Day of Death.  Many think Christ will judge us on our condition.  That is, He will evaluate our condition whether we are in or outside of Christ.  Those who are in Christ because of His merciful choice will enter heaven, but those outside of Christ because of His wrathful choice will enter hell.

7.     The Last Day is at the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

8.     The Last Day is the Appointed Day.

9.     The Last Day is after the world’s destruction by divine fire.

10. The Last Day is on the grounds of the reward of works.  That is, it does not mean we are justified by our works, but He judges Christians on their motives for their whole lives.   For the Christian it is not a judgment unto damnation, but it is judgment unto an evaluation of their whole Christian ministry.

11. Those in the Book of Life in heaven will be spared by Christ.

12. There will be a separation between the sheep and the goats.

13. There will be given retribution to the non-elect reprobates.

14. Christians must be prepared for the Last Day.

15. Christians should warm the wicked about the Last Day.

16. We are not justified by our works or performance but Christ alone.

17. Justification is by the necessity and sufficiency of grace alone.

18. Justification is by the exclusive blood of Christ alone.

19. Christ was raised for our justification.  That is, we can trust the life and death of Christ alone in how we are right with God.

20. Justification is by grace alone through the instrument of faith alone.

21. The fruit of justification is forgiveness and cleansing.

22. The gospel is not for sell because it is free.

23. The gospel is not earned because Jesus earned our salvation.

24. The fruit of justification is the supernatural peace of Christ.

25. There is a positional peace that cannot be undone for God’s elect.

26. There is an experiential peace that comes through constant prayer.

27. The fruit of justification is superlative holiness.  We contribute nothing to our spiritual salvation.

28. Justification is through the unified imputed righteousness of Christ alone in how someone is right with God.

29. We are called to demonstrate our outward practical righteousness.

30. The fruit of justification is eternal life.

31. The evidence of justification is the fruits of the Spirit.

32. Faith must be a living faith but not a meritorious faith.

33. The evidence of justification is divine wisdom.

34. The evidence of justification is spiritual patience.

35. The evidence of justification is Christ-like suffering.

36. Divine judgment is meant to punish evil through a sentence to eternal hell because Christ was not their substitute,

37. The cause of divine judgment is disobedience.

38. The wrath of God is reserved for rejecting His warnings.

39. The cause of wrath is idolatry.

40. The cause of wrath is loving evil more than good.

41. Christians ought to know their theology when they stand before Jesus.

42. Only those who are clothed in the robes of the unified righteousness of Christ alone will escape the Day of Doom.

43. Those found in a mere civil righteousness or extra-civil goodness will be condemned to hell because they brought the filthy garments of hell to the Day of Judgment.

44. The saints will judge the angels and the world.

45. The purpose of judgment unto mercy is the glory of Jesus.

46. The purpose of judgment unto damnation is the glory of Jesus.

O God of love, O King of peace,
Make wars throughout the world to cease;
The wrath of sinful man restrain;
Give peace, O God, give peace again.
Remember, Lord, thy works of old,
The wonders that our fathers told;
Remember not our sin's dark stain;
Give peace, O God, give peace again.
Whom shall we trust but thee, O Lord?
Where rest but on thy faithful Word?
None ever called on thee in vain;
Give peace, O God, give peace again.
Where saints and angels dwell above
All hearts are knit in holy love;
O bind us in that heav'nly chain;
Give peace, O God, give peace again.  (TH, 622).

A Mere 40-Point Exposition on a Biblical Study of the Virgin Mary That Is Meant for the Absolute Greatness of God Alone

Dr. Mike Petillo

I hear thy welcome voice
That calls me, Lord to thee
For cleansing in thy precious blood
That flowed on Calvary.
I am coming, Lord;
Coming now to thee:
Wash me, cleanse me, in the blood
That flowed on Calvary.
Though coming weak and vile,
Thou dost my strength assure;
Thou dost my vileness fully cleanse,
Til spotless all and pure.
'Tis Jesus calls me on
To perfect faith and love,
To perfect hope, and peace, and trust,
For earth and heav'n above.
'Tis Jesus who confirms
The blessed work within,
By adding grace to welcomed grace,
Where reigned the pow'r of sin.
And he the witness gives
To loyal hearts and free,
That ev'ry promise is fulfilled,
If faith but brings the plea.  (TH, 406).

1.  The written Scriptures call the Virgin Mary the mother of Jesus Christ (Mt. 1:16).

2.  The Virgin Mary is not the producer of the deity of Christ.  Rather He was self-existent before His conception and birth.  That is, He existed before His conception and birth as God the Son (the Second Person of the Trinity).

3.  Jesus Christ received His humanity from the Virgin Mary, but not His deity.    Every godly choice that is made is from God's predestinarian purpose alone unto His revealed mercy (Eph 1:11; Eph 2:10).  He alone is the reason why the Virgin Mary said "Yes" to God in bearing Jesus.  There is no biblical evidence that says Mary had inherit virtue, because in her prayer in Luke's Gospel she confessed her need for a divine Savior (see Lk 1:47).  Sinners need a Savior but a sinless person does not need a Savior.  Christians ought to give God the glory alone not man.  If boasting is given unto to Mary's choice, it is a vanity of absurd folly.  We ought to emphasis the glory of God in boasting of Him alone not His creatures.

4.  To exalt the Virgin Mary in her motherhood of Jesus Christ we do a disservice to God, His purpose and His glory.  No creature can stand with Him because there is none besides Him.

5.  The Virgin Mary is not equal with Jesus Christ touching sinlessness, because only Jesus Christ is sinless in His self-existence in His deity and His sacred humanity (1 Pet 1:19).  That is, Jesus never had shadows of sin of the body like creaturely sinners (Jn 8:46 compare to 1 Jn 1:8).

6.  St. Augustine said it is better to be a real child of God in Christ than to be the very mother of Jesus Christ.

7.  At one time in the life of the Virgin Mary she was a cosmic enemy of God, because no one is born a saint.   God saves in time and space at a particular time in a sinner's life (Rom 9:11, 16).

8.   The Virgin Mary was a believer in the Father of God's dear Son (see Luke chapter 1), because she was born again (Tit 3:5).

9.  It is better to pray to the Holy Trinity alone not to the Virgin Mary.

10.  It is better to spiritually rest in Christ alone in how someone is right with God than resting in the Virgin Mary and the saints with Christ making it possible through the Roman treasury of merit.

11.  The Bible teaches that Christ alone is the treasury of merit not the Virgin Mary and the saints.

12.  Pope Francis I said that Mary is in our struggles, but the Bible says nothing of this as an Ultimate Intercessor because God alone is our ultimate, heavenly and supernatural helper: Jesus in us, the hope of glory.

13.  The Virgin Mary was prophesied of bearing the God-Messiah (Is. 7:14).

14.  The Burning Bush was not a picture of the Virgin Mary, but it was a Pre-Incarnate Appearance of Jesus Christ.   Remember everything in the Bible is about Him alone.

15.  The Ark of the Covenant was not a prefigurement of the Virgin Mary, but rather the presence of God in the Incarnate Ark: Jesus Christ.  Remember He alone should get the glory.

16.  The Bible never refers to the Virgin Mary as the Second Eve, but rather the emphasis is on Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

17.   The OT Scriptures warns against a Queen Mother as a "heathen deity", because it violates the First Commandment (see Jer. 44:15-30).

18.  The Bible provides no evidence of Mary as the Queen of Peace, because Jesus Christ alone is the Prince of Peace.

19.  The Virgin Mary was engaged in St. Joseph (Lk 1:26-27).

20.  Christ was miraculously conceived through the Holy Spirit in a virginal conception not an ever-Virgin (Lk 1:28-38).

21.  The Virgin Mary is not an Ever-Virgin, but it clearly seems according to the Bible that Mary was the mother of other children (Mk 6:3).  The OT and NT Scriptures were written in Greek, and there is no indication that her other children were cousins.

22.   The Virgin Mary visits St. Elizabeth (Lk 1:39-41).

23.  If we get out of the Bible the "greatness of the Virgin Mary" we have misunderstood the infallible Scriptures, but if we get out of the Bible in viewing the Virgin Mary "the greatness of God" we rightly see the meaning of the sacred Word.

24.  The Virgin Mary offers praise (Lk 1:46-55).

25.  The Virgin Mary gives birth to Jesus Christ (Lk 2:6-20).  It is said by some that Jesus never cried, but it fails to understand that Jesus was a real human being apart from sin.  He experienced everything a real man would experience except He did not sin inwardly and outwardly.

26.  The Virgin Mary flees with St. Joseph to Egypt (Mt 2:13-18).  God says in His written Word, "Out of Egypt I have called My Son."  It is an indication of Jesus as divine Messiah.

27.  The exact details of the marriage of Mary and Joseph is not shared in the Bible, because God did not think it was worth mentioning.  Rather He mentions what we need to know.  The Bible says the Virgin Mary had male and female children, but Jesus was the First, Preeminent, Supreme and Unique Son of Mary (Mk 6:3).  Jesus Christ was the only Son of Mary who was the God-man!

28.  The Virgin Mary visits Jerusalem with Jesus (Lk 2:41-52).

29.  Jesus entrusts the aged Virgin Mary to the hospitable care of the Apostle John (Jn 19:25-27).  It does not mean Mary is our Mother, but God is the greatest One who cares for us greater than a love of a mother.  The love of God is incomparable to the love of creatures, because it is unequaled in the unconditional love of Jesus.

30.  If you make much of Mary, you have failed to understand Scripture.  Rather make much of Jesus, because He alone can save to the uttermost!

31.  The Virgin Mary was the later wife of Clopas (Jn 19:25).

32.  The Virgin Mary was the mother of James and Joses (Mt 27:56).

33.  The Virgin Mary beheld the Crucified Savior (Mt 27:55-56).  She witnessed His atoning death for this was the purpose for His miraculous birth.  A sword pierced her soul.  That is, it does not mean she suffered redemptively and won satisfaction for our sins.  Rather it means she suffered the eyewitness testimony of the sword of Roman execution in the human justice of brutal crucifixion.  Much more of Jesus in His sole redemptive suffering than anything else because He is the Eternal Son of God.

34.  The Virgin Mary follows Jesus' body to the tomb (Mt 27:61).

35.  The Virgin Mary is an eyewitness testimony of the bodily risen Christ (Mt 28:1, 9, 10).

Gentle Mary laid her child
Lowly in a manger;
There he lay, the undefiled,
To the world a stranger.
Such a babe in such a place,
Can he be the Saviour?
Ask the saved of all the race
Who have found his favor.
Angels sang about his birth,
Wise men sought and found him;
Heaven's star shone brightly forth
Glory all around him.
Shepherds saw the wondrous sight,
Heard the angels singing;
All the plains were lit that night,
All the hills were ringing.
Gentle Mary laid her child
Lowly in a manger;
He is still the undefiled,
But no more a stranger.
Son of God of humble birth,
Beautiful the story;
Praise his Name in all the earth,
Hail! the King of Glory!  (TH, 640).
