If thou but suffer God to guide thee,
And hope in him through all thy ways,
He'll give thee strength, whatever betide thee,
And bear thee through the evil days:
Who trusts in God's unchanging love
Builds on the rock that naught can move.
What can these anxious cares avail thee,
These never-ceasing moans and sighs?
What can it help, if thou bewail thee
O'er each dark moment as it flies?
Our cross and trials do but press
The heavier for our bitterness.
Only be still, and wait his leisure
In cheerful hope, with heart content
To take whate'er thy Father's pleasure
And all deserving love hath sent;
Nor doubt our inmost wants are known
To him who chose us for his own.
All are alike before the highest;
'Tis easy to our God, we know,
To raise thee up though low thou liest,
To make the rich man poor and low;
True wonders still by him are wrought
Who setteth up and brings to naught.
Sing, pray, and keep his ways unswerving,
So do thine own part faithfully,
And trust his word, though undeserving,
Thou yet shalt find it true for thee;
God never yet forsook at need
The soul that trusted him indeed. (TH, 567).

1. Abraham lived in a pagan civilization, but a holy Triune God chose Him out of radical paganism. In this basic sense, somewhere there is another Abraham. That is, somewhere someone will be delivered from their family paganism by God's real and divine choice in time and space.
2. Abraham was descendant of Shem. That is, all of us come from the historical family of Noah and his family. Somehow fallen man furthered in paganism. False religion is really a distortion of the true perpetuity of the written Word.
3. Abraham was son of Terah. All of us have a father and mother but are we truly born again? Do we cherish the religion of our family more than true religion?
4. The first name of Abraham was Abram. God alone divinely changed his name because he changed his divine calling and holy mission.
5. Abraham was the native of Ur. We all live somewhere, but the question is: do we conduct ourselves in the holy presence of God according to the practice of redeeming the time?
6. Abraham had pagan ancestors. Why didn't Abraham follow his pagan roots? Have you not heard the argument? That if a person grows up in a particular false religion, he or she must stay in it. Not so with Abraham! A holy God alone chose Him out of the non-elect for spiritual salvation. It simply means God alone is supernaturally able to divinely intervene and rescue His chosen out of the outer darkness of false religion if left unchanged.
7. Abraham weds Sarai, but we see him advocate homosexual marriage? By no means! Abraham is the "spiritual father" of the chosen people of God in Christ alone. He marries a woman of Christ but he does not further fornication with other women nor homosexual relationships. The occult furthers immorality, but Abraham is "set apart" by a holy God. Are you "set apart" from the practice of sexual immorality with others? It comes down to the honor and dishonor of Jesus Christ in all matters. It means it is better to marry a godly woman like Abraham than to marry a homosexual partner. Homosexual marriage is a invention of the interests of men where Satan is behind the scene furthering this sinful offense against a holy and innocent Triune God.
8. Abraham followed the Reformed teaching of the divine grace of spiritual rebirth.
9. Abraham had true faith as a sole instrument for how someone is right with a holy Triune God.
10. Abraham had the true Christ in the object of his Spirit and Word-born belief in the future person and work of divine Messiah.
11. Abraham believed the unified imputed divine righteousness of Christ alone who earned salvation for him in His perfect life and forgave his sin through the Cross.
12. At one time Abraham had a stoney heart. A holy Triune God removed his heart of stone and gave Abraham a heart of flesh that pulsates with the love of Jesus Christ.
The God of Abraham praise,
Who reigns enthroned above;
Ancient of everlasting days,
And God of love:
Jehovah! great I AM!
By earth and heav'n confessed;
I bow and bless the sacred name,
For ever blest.
The God of Abraham praise,
At whose supreme command
From earth I rise, and seek the joys
At his right hand:
I all on earth forsake,
Its wisdom, fame, and power;
And him my only portion make,
My Shield and Tower.
He by himself hath sworn,
I on his oath depend;
I shall, on eagle's wings upborne,
To heav'n ascend:
I shall behold his face,
I shall his power adore,
And sing the wonders of his grace
For evermore.
The goodly land I see,
With peace and plenty blest,
A land of sacred liberty
And endless rest;
There milk and honey flow,
And oil and wine abound,
And trees of life for ever grow,
With mercy crowned.
There dwells the Lord our King,
The Lord our righteousness;
Triumphant over the world and sin,
The Prince of Peace
On Zion's sacred height
His kingdom still maintains,
And glorious with his saints in light
For ever reigns.
The whole triumphant host
Give thanks to God on high;
Hail Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,
They ever cry:
Hail Abraham's God and mine!
I join the heavenly lays
All might and majesty are thine,
And endless praise. (TH, 32).
