 Marvelous grace of our loving Lord,
Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt,
Yonder on Calvary's mount outpoured,
There where the blood of the Lamb was spilt.
Grace, grace, God's grace,
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
Grace, grace, God's grace,
Grace that is greater than all my sin.
Sin and despair like the sea waves cold,
Threaten the soul with infinite loss;
Grace that is greater, yes, grace untold,
Points to the refuge, the mighty cross.
Dark is the stain that we cannot hide,
What can avail to wash it away?
Look! there is flowing a crimson tide;
Whiter than snow you may be today.  (TH, 705).

"...For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ..."
"...I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not..."
"...And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day..."
"...Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire..."

"..Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities..."
 "...But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves..."
"...Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core..."
"...These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots..."
"...Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever..."
"...To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him..."
"...These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage..."
"...These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit..."  (KJV).

THE HOPE OF DESPAIR, SECTION 1

1.)  There is a hope that is not a hope.

2.)  Civil hope is not redemptive hope.

3.)  Redemptive hope is by the Spirit and the Word.

4.)  Civil hope is a non-redemptive hope that is a gift of His outstretched arm in His foredetermined purpose but not availing for justification by faith alone in divine providence.

5.)  There is civil hope that finds itself in false religion that is not born of the Spirit and Word in a redemptive sense.

6.)  There is a civil hope that is a hope of despair.

7.)  Despair of redemptive hope is of the sinful flesh.

8.)  There is a civil hope of heaven out of false religion that ends in hell.

9.)  If someone is civilly awakened according Romans 1:19 about Reformed truth, it could lead to a greater despair of true hope and a reflection that changes civil motives in restrainment of sin.

10.)  A future of redemptive hope in a civil hope is kindled with the knowledge of the Spirit for a time under condemnation for a time under of salvation until glory to be with Jesus but it is possible that the Spirit will genuinely awaken sinners to Himself at His all-wise timing by His Spirit and Word.

  THE COMFORT OF DESPAIR, SECTION 2

1.)  There is comfort that is not a comfort.

2.)  Civil comfort is not redemptive comfort.

3.)  Redemptive comfort is by the Spirit and Word.

4.)  There is a comfort that is not of God in a regenerating sense of His Word, but it is a comfort that is satisfied with the comfort of despair.

5.)  The comfort of despair is a trap from the Fall of Adam that a unregenerate soul finds himself where he cannot will himself out of his despair.

6.)  Sin brings comfort in such a way that it is like dark pillow that the rests upon and sinks lower than the grave and we wonder why sinners are not born in hell because of radical corruption.

7.)  Sin brings a blinding, deafening and muting comfort to the senses of depraved man concerning authentic acceptance of the Gospel.

8.)  A sinner can civilly seek to flee from his hope of despair but he is locked in the abyss of hopelessness that yields no success because true belief is not native to our sinful flesh in spiritual deadness.

9.)  The comfort of despair is helped by the outward presence of the Spirit who comes upon sinners for good but awaits the time of conversion by the all-wise timing of the Spirit and Word.

10.)  The comfort of despair is love of sin and seeking more sin to reside the dark arms of Satan's blinding comfort of despair where there is a civil defiance but not a redemptive change unless the Spirit and the Word quicken them to life eternal.

 THE COMPASSION OF DESPAIR, SECTION 3

1.)  There is a compassion that is not a compassion.

2.)   Civil compassion is a gift of God because all civil good comes from God but it is so flawed.

3.)  Civil compassion is corrupted and depraved-filled weakness due to the sole fault of fallen man's sinfulness of sin and mere finite creaturliness.

4.)  Civil compassion that it could never add to the unified imputed righteousness of Christ alone in justification by faith alone.

5.)  Civil compassion from false religion is like handing down to their followers venom of a serpent that is a sweet drink of a bitter "fate" of hell.

6.)  The compassion of Jesus is not civil compassion but that of the Cross of Jesus Christ alone.

7.)  Civil compassion is found in hell because everyone is preparing themselves a flame of fire that does not shutter them from a holy God but consumed in an deathless death that lives for a darkness of destruction.

8.)  The civil compassion among elites is after raping them they come back to give them compassion with the very same means they appropriated victimization.

9.)  Compassion among educated reprobates in crime is like "we have torn you to pieces" and their treatment is "it never happened and let's prolong your pain" and "let's have the money for what we have done" while the victim has an incurable disease and the church bows the knee to outsiders.

10.)  Compassion of despair is preaching Rome's fascade of "expiation through torment" when the Bible speaks of expiation and propitiation by the Cross of Jesus Christ alone because who is able to stand as the sole God-man set apart for self-existent sinlessness?

O quickly come, dread Judge of all;
For, awful though thine advent be,
All shadows from the truth will fall,
And falsehood die, in sight of thee:
O quickly come; for doubt and fear
Like clouds dissolve when thou art near.
O quickly come, great King of all;
Reign all around us, and within;
Let sin no more our souls enthrall,
Let pain and sorrow die with sin:
O quickly come; for thou alone
Canst make thy scattered people one.
O quickly come, true Life of all;
For death is mighty all around;
On ev'ry home his shadows fall,
On ev'ry heart his mark is found:
O quickly come; for grief and pain
Can never cloud thy glorious reign.
O quickly come, sure Light of all;
For gloomy night broods o'er our way;
And weakly souls begin to fall
With weary watching for the day:
O quickly come; for round thy throne
No eye is blind, no night is known.  (TH, 243).
