50-Disputations in a Little Sermon on the Foul Breath of Satan, Section 1

By Dr. MA Petillo

I heard the voice of Jesus say,
"Come unto me and rest;
Lay down, thou weary one, lay down
Thy head upon my breast."
I came to Jesus as I was,
Weary and worn and sad,
I found in him a resting place,
And he has made me glad.
I heard the voice of Jesus say,
"Behold, I freely give
The living water; thirsty one,
Stoop down and drink, and live."
I came to Jesus, and I drank
Of that life-giving stream;
My thirst was quenched, my soul revived,
And now I live in him.
I heard the voice of Jesus say,
"I am this dark world's Light;
Look unto me, thy morn shall rise,
And all thy day be bright."
I looked to Jesus, and I found
In him my Star, my Sun;
And in that light of life I'll walk,
Till trav'ling days are done.  (TH, 221).

1.     The foul breath of Satan is his unjust accusations before Christ against the chosen and elect people of God in Christ.

2.     The foul breath of Satan is his pursuit of mental oppression against the converted elect people of God in Christ.

3.     The foul breath of Satan causes the pursuit of suicide among humans.

4.     It is better to quote Scripture when Satan attacks than to use arguments against him, but the key is to do the best you are able using the God-speaking Scriptures.

5.     The breath of Christ is the spiritual quickening of the Spirit.

6.     The breath of Satan comes only to destroy unto darkness.

7.     The breath of Christ is the voice of God Incarnate in Scripture.

8.     The breath of Satan is like fire from his mouth in burning reformers.

9.     The breath of Christ is like a gentle river that comforts God’s people.

10. The breath of Christ brings peace to the people of God.

11. The voice of Christ is the unabbable Scriptures.

12. The breath of Christ is like a spiritual Asland who breathes on those who are spiritually dead with a stony heart.

13. It is better to hear the voice of Christ in Scripture than here the voice of Satan through vain babblings that lead to more and more vanity.

14. It is better to have the breath of Christ in listening to His NT commandments in the written Scriptures.

15. The voice of Christ is gentle and calm but also firm and strong.

16. The voice of Satan is always advocating sin upon sin.

17. The voice of Satan comes to undo or claim God’s work.

18. The breath of Christ comes to destroy the works of the devil.

19. A Roman priest is not another Christ but a false Christ.

20. Popery is a way for Satan to maintain another Tower of Babel.

21. The secret papal encyclicals of Popery are mockery to the truth.

22. Popery has obeyed the voice of Satan over the voice of Jesus.

23. Islam has obeyed the voice of Satan over the voice of Jesus.

24. The only voice of Jesus that is solely normative touching everything we need to know is the OT & NT Scriptures, but Jesus does make special rare appearances that only point to the Book alone.

25. Oneness Pentecostalism rejects the Triune of God but embraces false tradition, but Incarnate Deity speaks of the literal Three Persons.

26. The Fourth Member doctrine of the new Balaam’s “Satanic Romanism” is a doctrine of demons that grabs the mind into an unholy alliance with wrong, idolatrous doctrine.

27.  The Fourth Member doctrine in different forms is the teaching of the breath of Satan.

28. The breath of Satan comes to deceive more and more, because it is about Satan’s allegiance to himself and furtherance of self-worship.

29. The voice of Christ is not the voice of Satan.

30. The voice of Satan is not the voice of Christ.

31. There should never be anything added to the Scriptures (the voice of Christ).

32. It is possible for God through the Word preach to correct us.

33. The Word preached is God speaking to His people, but the Word must be handled correctly.

34. The devil hates the Word preached because it is the presence of Jesus.

35. The breath of Jesus is the Spirit coming to bring new life.

44. There was never anyone who could counter the breath of Jesus.

45. There is no one who can counter the voice of Jesus.

46. The enemy seeks to burn the Word preached or the very Scriptures.

47. The enemy seeks to replace the God-speaking Scriptures with something else.

48. The folly of atheism and agnosticism and false religion is that it obeys the voice of sinners.

49. The voice of Jesus for God’s people is about obedience.

50. The voice of Jesus speaks from absolute sovereignty.

"Come unto me, ye weary,
And I will give you rest."
O blessed voice of Jesus
Which comes to hearts oppressed!
It tells of benediction,
Of pardon, grace, and peace,
Of joy that hath no ending,
Of love which cannot cease.
"Come unto me, dear children,
And I will give you light."
O loving voice of Jesus
Which comes to cheer the night!
Our hearts were filled with sadness,
And we had lost our way;
But morning brings us gladness,
And songs the break of day.
"Come unto me, ye fainting,
And I will give you life."
O peaceful voice of Jesus
Which comes to end our strife!
The foe is stern and eager,
The fight is fierce and long;
But thou hast made us mighty,
And stronger than the strong.
"And whosoever cometh
I will not cast him out."
O patient love of Jesus
Which drives away our doubt;
Which calls us, very sinners,
Unworthy though we be
Of love so free and boundless,
To come, dear Lord, to thee!  (TH, 405).
