A Mere 15-Disputations on the Bible-based Fear of the Thrice Holy Triune Lord

Mike Petillo, BD

All ye that fear Jehovah's Name,
His glory tell, his praise proclaim;
Ye children of his chosen race,
Stand ye in awe before his face,
Stand ye in awe before his face.
The suffering one he has not spurned,
Who unto him for succor turned;
From him he has not hid his face,
But answered his request in grace,
But answered his request in grace.
O Lord, thy goodness makes me raise
Amid thy people songs of praise;
Before all them that fear thee, now
I worship thee and pay my vow,
I worship thee and pay my vow.
The Lord's unfailing righteousness
All generations shall confess,
From age to age shall men be taught
What wondrous works the Lord has wrought
What wondrous works the Lord has wrought.  (TH, 6).

1.  Judas Iscariot had a tormative fear of Incarnate Deity during the historical ministry of Jesus that ended in suicide.

2.  St. Peter had a reverential fear born of the Spirit of Incarnate Deity during the public ministry of Jesus that began with bitter contrite tears and ended in a threefold restoration by the bodily resurrected Christ.

3.  There is a civil fear of the civil magistrate among humans.

4.  There is a godly fear among the people of God in Christ toward the church discipline by the ruling eldership.

5.  There is a godly and contrite repentance toward a Holy Triune God through Christ crucified by the Spirit of Christ.

6.  There is a godly fear unto well-pleasing obedience toward the Triune God for those converted elect people in Christ.

7.  There is civil fear and civil restraint among reprobates about God's law and the judgment of God.

8.  No one should have a worshiping fear of Satan, because it violates the First Commandment in the Ten Commandments.

9.  No faithful Christian should say "well, that interpretation sounds good" without being a Bible Detective in Acts 17:11.

10.  There is a good fear brought by the Spirit of God that emphasizes the honor of Christ in all things over the dishonor of Christ in all things.

11.  Jesus Christ had a submissive obedience to the Father in that He always did what was well-pleasing to Him, but as Incarnate Deity He was also co-equal and co-eternal and co-essential with the Father and the Spirit.

12.  The people of the Korah rebellion did not have godly fear before a holy Triune God nor Moses.

13.  Balaam was concerned with the interests of men over the interests of God in a habitual sense, but a holy Triune God calls us to repent and believe the gospel like St. Peter in the morification and crucifixion of the flesh in dying to sin and living to righteousness.

14.  The civil magistrate should fear a holy Triune God and respect that human rights come from Him alone.

15.  Satan does not fear a holy Triune God unto reverence, but he fears a holy Triune God unto a torment that never sleeps and lingers in the abyss of darkness that recompenses his deeds of the pit of hell.

Fear not, O little flock, the foe
Who madly seeks your overthrow;
Dread not his rage and pow'r:
What though your courage sometimes faints,
His seeming triumph o'er God's saints
Lasts but a little hour.
Be of good cheer; your cause belongs
To him who can avenge your wrongs;
Leave it to him, our Lord:
Though hidden yet from all our eyes,
He sees the Gideon who shall rise
To save us and his Word.
As true as God's own Word is true,
Nor earth nor hell with all their crew
Against us shall prevail.
A jest and byword are they grown;
God is with us, we are his own;
Our vict'ry cannot fail.
Amen, Lord Jesus, grant our pray'r;
Great Captain, now thine arm make bare,
Fight for us once again;
So shall thy saints and martyrs raise
A mighty chorus to thy praise,
World without end. Amen.  (TH, 470).
